What is spalling on concrete surfaces?

Spalling concrete is a concrete that has chipped out, been damaged by freeze/thaw, broken, or flaked due to factors such as excess temperature, moisture, corrosion, weathering, chemicals, mechanical pressures that stress the concrete, or poor installation causing the concrete to wear out prematurely.



Is spalling concrete dangerous?

Concrete spalling is more common in colder climates, where the concrete endures freeze-thaw cycles. Because spalling can be a sign of deep even in dryer climates it is a dangerous situation that can result in further issues and it's important to repair spalling at the first sign of brokenness or flaking.
